Boeing Attacks Airbus Plans

Boeing 737

Boeing sharply criticized plans by competitor Airbus to build an airliner manufacturing facility in Mobile, saying the European company’s presence will kill American jobs.
“While it is interesting once again to see Airbus promising to move jobs from Europe to the United States, no matter how many are created, the numbers pale in comparison to the thousands of US jobs destroyed by illegal subsidies,” Boeing said in a statement to WKRG.
Airbus and its parent company, European Aeronautics Defence and Space Co., are expected to announce plans on Monday to build its first North American manufacturing facility at the Brookley Industrial Complex. The factory is expected to build Airbus’ A-320 neo and create approximately 1,000 jobs.
Boeing has long accused EADS of receiving unfair funding from European governments that violate international trade laws.
EADS executives have called reports of Monday’s announcement premature, but local and state officials have confirmed that they’ve received invitations to Airbus events scheduled for Sunday night and Monday morning in Mobile.
The announcement is expected to happen Monday at 10 a.m. at the Arthur Outlaw Convention Center in Downtown Mobile.
